Real-Time PCR

The ABI PRISM® 7500 Sequence Detection System is a fully integrated system for real-time detection of PCR. The system includes a built-in thermal cycler, a tungsten-halogen lamp to induce fluorescence, CCD (charge-coupled device) detector, real-time sequence detection software, and TaqMan reagents for the fluorogenic 5' nuclease assay. The 7500 can detect a broad range of dyes, including Cy3, Cy5, and Texas Red. You must schedule a time period to use it.

  • Black and white printer for data
  • Web-based calendar for signing-up for time on the machine

Software

  • Primer Express 2.0 software for designing primers and TaqMan probes
  • Sequence Detection Software 1.0.1 to analyze data
  • Web-based information and help pages

Personnel

  • Maintenance of the machine and computer
  • Initial training on how to run the 7500
  • Maintenance of a library of protocols and technical reports
  • Contacts with service and technical advisors at ABI
  • Contacts with others on campus working on similar projects
  • Troubleshooting of computer and software bugs

The investigators are responsible for purchasing all consumables. A $1.00 charge is assessed for each color printout of data.
